XCarb Gains Ground with Sustainability-Focused Manufacturers

ArcelorMittal has signed new agreements to supply its XCarb™ low-emission steel to partners in Germany and Switzerland. In Germany, ArcelorMittal Steel Service Centres Europe will supply XCarb to Wolf GmbH, a leading HVAC system manufacturer. The company will offer XCarb as an option in its air conditioning product range, allowing customers to choose a low-carbon alternative with full CO₂ data transparency. Documentation accompanying each delivery provides lifecycle and carbon footprint information, helping downstream users align with ESG and Scope 3 emission targets.

Swiss Icon "Landi" Bench Goes Green with XCarb

In Switzerland, Burri Public Elements has incorporated XCarb into the iconic “Landi” bench, manufactured since 1939. Burri collaborated with ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Altensteig and Swiss steel processor Kindlmann to produce a sustainable version of the public seating product. According to Burri’s Stephan Bachmann, the XCarb steel met all technical expectations during trial production in summer 2024—demonstrating excellent formability, weldability, and surface coating properties.

Momentum Builds for Green Steel in Europe

These deals underline growing demand for certified low-carbon steel across European manufacturing. ArcelorMittal's XCarb program is designed to reduce embodied carbon in steel by using renewable energy, scrap-based production, and innovative carbon capture and usage technologies. As manufacturers and public sector clients increasingly prioritize emissions reduction, XCarb is emerging as a viable solution in the circular economy and green construction movement.

ScrapInsight Commentary

ArcelorMittal’s XCarb deals show the expanding market for verified low-emission steel—especially in sectors focused on climate-aligned procurement. For scrap processors and recyclers, this trend supports stronger integration into electric arc furnace (EAF) supply chains and opens the door to premium markets where traceability and carbon accounting drive procurement decisions.
