ArcelorMittal Poland Blast Furnace No. 3 Restart marks a strategic expansion in Poland’s integrated steel production capacity. The company completed a 60 million zloty investment at its Dąbrowa Górnicza site to restore full operational output. The ArcelorMittal Poland Blast Furnace No. 3 Restart is expected to reinforce national steel supply stability and improve regional industrial resilience.
Strategic Investment and Production Recovery
The ArcelorMittal Poland Blast Furnace No. 3 Restart follows a comprehensive refurbishment program at the Huta Katowice complex in Dąbrowa Górnicza. The company invested 60 million zlotys to modernize equipment and restore furnace efficiency. As a result, the facility is positioned to recover full production capacity within Poland’s steel supply chain. However, the broader EU steel market continues to face competitive pressure from imported low-cost steel.
Meanwhile, ArcelorMittal Poland emphasized that domestic steel production remains a strategic pillar of industrial development. The company works with approximately 3,000 local suppliers, including JSW, PKP Cargo, Orlen, and Tauron. Therefore, the ArcelorMittal Poland Blast Furnace No. 3 Restart also strengthens upstream industrial integration across Poland’s manufacturing ecosystem.
Environmental Modernization and Industrial Transition
The ArcelorMittal Poland Blast Furnace No. 3 Restart is part of a broader modernization strategy focused on efficiency and environmental performance. The company simultaneously launched a 60 million zloty investment in sinter belt conveyor aspiration systems and sinter screening units. These upgrades reduce dust emissions and enhance energy efficiency across production processes. In contrast to traditional heavy industry operations, these improvements align with EU decarbonization objectives.
Meanwhile, total investment in Dąbrowa Górnicza exceeded 120 million zlotys in the first half of 2026 alone. Since 2004, ArcelorMittal Poland has invested nearly 11.5 billion zlotys in Polish assets. The ArcelorMittal Poland Blast Furnace No. 3 Restart also reflects long-term capital commitment to modernization, safety, and environmental compliance within the European steel sector.
ScrapInsight Commentary
The ArcelorMittal Poland Blast Furnace No. 3 Restart increases primary steel availability in Central Europe and may temporarily ease scrap-driven production pressure. However, structural EU decarbonization policies will continue to favor electric arc furnace expansion and higher scrap utilization. Therefore, medium-term scrap demand volatility is expected rather than a structural decline.
