JV to boost localized production of aluminum and magnesium castings for aerospace and defense.

Magellan Aerospace has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian aerospace manufacturer Aequs to explore a joint venture for a new sand casting facility in Karnataka, India, supporting both commercial and defense aerospace markets.

The facility is proposed within the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster, one of India’s fastest-growing aerospace manufacturing hubs. Though financial details remain undisclosed, the plant is expected to significantly enhance localized production capacity for aluminum and magnesium castings, commonly used in aircraft engines and structural components.

The collaboration would pair Magellan’s casting expertise, developed through its North American operations, with Aequs’s capabilities in forging, machining, and assembly. Aequs serves major OEMs including Boeing, Airbus, and Safran, and maintains operations in India, Texas, and France.

This partnership aligns with India’s broader strategy to become a self-reliant aerospace manufacturing hub. With the region projected to have the world’s fastest air traffic growth, global OEMs are seeking resilient, regional supply chains. India’s government incentives and rising investments in metal processing infrastructure, such as PTC Industries’ titanium initiatives, underscore the strategic timing of this move.

The proposed sand casting JV would serve not only Indian demand but also global aerospace programs, reinforcing the trend toward high-value, localized metal component manufacturing.
