Bougouni project operations continue amid misreported export claims
Kodal Minerals has firmly refuted media reports claiming that spodumene concentrate exports from its Bougouni lithium project in southern Mali have been blocked, calling them inaccurate and misleading.
On May 19, the mineral exploration and development company confirmed that discussions with the Mali government to finalise an export permit for spodumene concentrate are progressing as planned. Kodal said it expects to receive the permit soon, and stressed that operations remain unaffected.
“The government of Mali has been very supportive of the development of Bougouni,” the company stated, adding that cooperation remains strong as both parties recognise the mutual interest in beginning spodumene exports promptly.
27,000 tonnes ready for export
Kodal noted that over 27,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate have been stockpiled in preparation for export. The company is ramping up its processing plant to nameplate production, with progress on schedule.
The Bougouni project is Kodal's flagship lithium asset and a strategic development amid rising global demand for battery minerals. Kodal has been active in Mali for over a decade, and its CEO Bernard Aylward is currently on site to oversee ongoing mining, processing, and exploration drilling.
Aylward’s visit underscores the company's confidence in its Malian operations and its commitment to expanding the lithium resource.
