The 55-year-old family-owned recycler celebrates legacy, community service, and environmental stewardship.

Comal Iron & Metals, a leading ferrous and nonferrous metals recycler in New Braunfels, Texas, has been awarded Texas Treasure Business status by the Texas Historical Commission. The recognition honors long-standing businesses that have contributed to Texas communities for more than 50 years.

Founded in 1969 by Pasqual Rodriguez, Comal has remained family-owned and -operated, with its third-generation leadership team guiding operations. CEO Marcie Rodriguez, her husband Roger Rodriguez (Director of Operations), and other family members lead a company deeply rooted in community and environmental responsibility.

“For over five decades, we’ve proudly stewarded the environment while contributing to the growth and strength of the New Braunfels economy,” said Marcie Rodriguez.

Operating on a 4.5-acre site, Comal processes a wide variety of scrap metal from industrial, commercial, and public sources. The company emphasizes personalized customer service, sustainability, and public engagement, participating in charitable fundraisers, school events, and recycling education.

Marcie highlighted the importance of community connection: “We are part of the flow. What we do is metal recycling—it’s not meant to stay in our gates.”

Comal’s continued success in Texas’ evolving recycling landscape underscores the value of local ownership, consistency, and a customer-first approach. The Texas Treasure award celebrates Comal’s legacy of integrity and its ongoing impact on both the industry and community.
