Philippines Announces Plans to Expand Nickel Processing Capacity

Nickel

On May 10 (local time), the Philippine government announced plans to establish three new nickel processing facilities. Utilizing the country’s abundant nickel reserves, the government aims to foster a high-value-added processing sector by adding three more plants to the existing two processing facilities.

The plan has garnered interest from countries such as China, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada. However, detailed plans have not yet been disclosed.

Meanwhile, following Indonesia's successful implementation of a nickel and copper concentrate export ban to boost its processing industry, there is keen interest in whether the Philippines can replicate Indonesia’s success.
