EcoPro is preparing to enter the lithium-ion battery recycling business in North America.
EcoPro recently announced on the 1st that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with American battery recycling company Cirba Solutions in South Carolina.
The two companies plan to discuss strategies to strengthen their cooperation in the lithium-ion battery recycling business in North America and to discuss detailed plans.
In response to the U.S. IRA, EcoPro plans to secure competitive battery scrap, such as end-of-life batteries, based on Cirba Solutions' local network. The secured scrap will be used to produce black mass, securing recycled raw materials, and establishing recycling cooperation locally.
Cirba Solutions is a company that extracts key minerals such as nickel and other valuable materials from end-of-life batteries. It has been recognized for its technology and competitiveness by attracting a $50 million investment from Japanese trading company Marubeni.
Jay Wago, CCO of Cirba Solutions, said, “Recycling is a key element of the value chain that will create a circular economy in electric vehicle batteries. Through cooperation with the globally recognized EcoPro, we will be able to expand the electric vehicle battery supply chain.”
Hyerim Chung, Head of Strategic Planning at EcoPro, stated, “With the premium recycling expertise of Cirba Solutions, we aim to advance EcoPro's closed-loop system, encompassing everything from battery recycling to cathode material production, into the North American market.”
