Kabwe Zinc Mine drilling programme drives Shuka Minerals’ expansion strategy in Zambia

Kabwe Zinc Mine

Drilling Launch and Geological Context

The Kabwe Zinc Mine drilling programme advances in Zambia as Shuka Minerals initiates phase one exploration drilling at Kabwe. The Kabwe Zinc Mine drilling programme targets the No.2 ore body and reinforces renewed geological interest in historic polymetallic assets. Shuka Minerals has appointed Ox Drilling as contractor through its subsidiary Leopard Exploration and Mining. The GeoQuest geological team and CEO Richard Lloyd oversee operations on-site, ensuring technical compliance and drilling precision.

Resource Base and Critical Metals Upside

The Kabwe Zinc Mine drilling programme focuses on a high-grade ore body containing 3.1 million tonnes of mineralization. The deposit grades average 11.4% zinc and 1.7% lead, alongside silver, vanadium, gallium, and germanium. However, past exploration has prioritized base metals rather than critical byproducts. The Kabwe Zinc Mine drilling programme now integrates systematic evaluation of these strategic elements using XRF core analysis and ALS laboratory assays under NI 43-101 standards.

Expansion Strategy and Subsurface Potential

The Kabwe Zinc Mine drilling programme aims to expand the resource base by up to 50% depending on drilling results. The No.2 ore body remains open at depth, supporting further mineral continuity potential below current operations. The initial diamond drill hole targets 220–230 metres below surface at a 65-degree angle to test deeper extensions. Meanwhile, Shuka Minerals positions Kabwe as a strategic African asset aligned with critical mineral supply chains.

ScrapInsight Commentary

The Kabwe Zinc Mine drilling programme reinforces Zambia’s role in global zinc-lead supply reactivation. Deeper intercept success could materially improve resource confidence and project valuation. Meanwhile, byproduct metals may enhance long-term margins under tightening critical mineral markets.
