New EAF Facility and Production Capacity
Tata Steel will launch its Tata Steel Punjab EAF Plant in Ludhiana this March. The plant uses electric arc furnace technology with 0.75 million tons annual capacity. Meanwhile, a rolling mill will produce rebar from 100% scrap steel. Therefore, the facility emphasizes eco-friendly production and sustainable raw material usage. This represents Tata Steel’s largest regional investment in Punjab.

The new plant will create approximately 2,500 jobs and attract over $350 million in total investment. As a result, local suppliers and scrap metal traders are expected to benefit from increased demand. In contrast, other Indian steel producers may face competitive pressure in rebar and flat product markets. Tata Steel continues to increase production, with a consolidated output of 8.39 million tons in Q3 FY 2025/26, up 8% year-on-year.
