Canada-based Globex Mining Enterprises recently identified substantial rare earth mineralization at its Gem Hills property in south-eastern Nevada. The discovery confirms significant potential for rare earth oxide (REO) extraction, reinforcing the United States’ strategic resource base. Early assays report total rare earth oxides (TREO) ranging from 0.28% to 5.26%, averaging 1.7% TREO.


Geological Profile and Mineralization Details

The Gem Hills property lies within the Caliente Caldera Complex, part of the Great Basin province. Devonian limestone and dolomite are interlaced with mid-Tertiary volcanic rocks, creating faulted contact zones rich in rare earth elements. Notably, heavy rare earth oxides (HREO) reached up to 18.97%, with neodymium and praseodymium oxides combining up to 35%. Meanwhile, X-ray diffraction (XRD) tests confirmed dominant phases as dolomite, calcite, gibbsite, fluorite, and monazite. These unique geological settings suggest a hydrothermal-metasomatic REE deposit type, rare in North America.


Strategic and Environmental Implications

The absence of uranium or thorium radiation anomalies indicates potential for cleaner extraction processes. Globex’s ongoing sampling and exploration could expand the 90-meter exposed strike to the west and under overburden. As a result, the Gem Hills project may become a key contributor to the U.S. rare earth supply, supporting high-tech manufacturing, electric vehicles, and renewable energy sectors. Concurrently, Globex’s North American expansion, including acquisitions in Quebec, underscores its strategic positioning in critical mineral markets.
