Tru-Trac Boosts Conveyor Uptime at Mauritania Iron Ore Mine

 Tru-Trac Conveyor Belt Tracking Solutions

Self-aligning trackers mitigate fire risks, cut downtime, and enhance safety in extreme desert conditions.

A leading iron ore mine in Mauritania has significantly improved conveyor safety and uptime thanks to a custom solution implemented by Tru-Trac, a specialist in conveyor belt alignment systems. The mine had faced serious belt misalignment issues, resulting in damage to conveyor sidewalls, excessive maintenance costs, and fire risks due to friction-induced heat build-up.

After an on-site inspection by Tru-Trac’s West Africa team, Technical Sales Engineer Muller Joubert designed and oversaw the installation of eight V-Return self-alignment trackers across three conveyor systems. These automated tracking systems immediately corrected misalignment, stopped sidewall damage, and eliminated spillage, all of which improved uptime and productivity.

“Some of the belts were grinding into the structure, creating a fire hazard,” Joubert explained. “Our V-Return trackers corrected the issue instantly and allowed continued safe operation, saving replacement costs.”

The trackers also reduced the need for manual cleanup, improving worker safety and efficiency. Designed with sealed mechanisms, the trackers withstand Mauritania’s extreme temperatures and dust storms, ensuring long-term performance. Maintenance is simplified: replacing rollers takes just 20 minutes, reducing downtime.

Each tracker was customized to match the conveyors’ belt speed (2.7–3.2 m/s) and load capacity. Tru-Trac expects the units to perform reliably for over seven years, supported by proper maintenance and technical support.
