Strong Performance in April-May Lays Groundwork for Summer Production
Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMZ), part of DCH Steel, completed a successful rolling campaign at Rolling Shop No. 2 (RP-2) from April 25 to May 7, producing over 9.2 thousand tons of steel products. According to the company's corporate newspaper DCH, the next campaign is set to begin in June, with projected output reaching 9–10 thousand tons.
The recent spring campaign ended a day ahead of schedule and included production of channels from No. 10 to No. 30 and 125 angle sections. Notably, all shifts operated under a three-team schedule for the first time, which helped maintain high productivity without exceeding metal or energy consumption, said Yuriy Mykhailiv, Deputy General Director for Metallurgical Production.
Among the key milestones was the first commercial rolling of channel No. 22 from a 200×200 square cast billet. This technology was under development for over a year, with final tests completed in February 2025. Trial coils of channels No. 24 and No. 30 were also produced and are currently being reviewed to refine the process further.
Lightweight channels No. 8–16 continued to see strong demand, with the campaign demonstrating market stability for both lightweight and standard profiles.
Logistics, Technology and Infrastructure Boost Efficiency
In addition to production successes, the campaign emphasized logistical improvements. In April, DMZ restored wagon scales No. 5, allowing billet imports via Kaidatska station at reduced costs. By May, the company had calibrated these scales to begin outbound shipping of finished products from the same location.
Looking ahead, DMZ is preparing for the June campaign by inspecting RP-2 equipment and developing calibrations for channels No. 24 and No. 30, based on recent rolling trials.
Despite the progress, DMZ’s overall production is still recovering. In January–April 2025, output of commercial rolled metal products dropped 52.4% year-on-year to 11.2 thousand tons. Coke production also declined 24.8% to 70.6 thousand tons over the same period.
DMZ, a flagship Ukrainian steelmaker under the DCH Group, produces Ukraine’s widest range of channels and angles. It is the only domestic manufacturer of channels with parallel shelves (No. 12 to 30) and supplies special profiles for engineering, crane rails, and mine rails.
