Austria’s Marienhütte to Upgrade Bar Line for Longer, Faster Production

Marienhütte

Austria-based steelmaker Marienhütte has selected Danieli Technologies of Italy to carry out a major revamp of its bar line finishing area at the company’s Graz plant. The upgrade—the most extensive modernization effort for this section—will be completed in early 2026, with disassembly, installation, and commissioning scheduled during a planned three-week plant shutdown.

The investment will significantly boost the facility’s capabilities. Post-revamp, the line will be able to process bars up to 72 meters in length—almost doubling the current capacity of less than 40 meters. Additionally, it will handle diameters from 8 to 40 mm at production speeds reaching 60 meters per second. The new setup will also include fully automated systems, enabling seamless operation and enhanced efficiency across the line.

Improved Production Flexibility and Cost Efficiency

According to Marienhütte, the modernization project will deliver improved production flexibility, helping the company adapt to changing market demands while also achieving reduced operating costs. The upgrade aligns with Marienhütte’s broader strategy of maintaining a competitive edge through high-tech investments and leaner manufacturing operations.
