Experienced Metals Industry Leader to Drive Strategic Growth at Olympic Steel Subsidiary
Action Stainless, a division of Olympic Steel, has appointed Alex Hegler as general manager of its Rock Hill, South Carolina operation. Hegler brings extensive experience in sales and strategic leadership within the metals sector. He most recently served as sales manager at a global specialty metals distributor and service center.
In his new role, Hegler will oversee daily operations and lead the site’s sustainable growth initiatives. He will report directly to Jessica L. Burroughs, vice president of Action Stainless.
“Alex is an effective commercial leader with a proven record of strategic market expansion,” said Andy Markowitz, president of Specialty Metals. “His global experience will help drive fabrication-focused growth for Rock Hill, Action Stainless, and Olympic Steel—especially as OEMs explore reshoring metal processing capabilities.”
Nippon Steel–U.S. Steel Deal Faces New National Security Scrutiny
In other industry developments, Nippon Steel’s bid to acquire U.S. Steel continues to encounter political and regulatory hurdles. On April 7, former President Donald Trump ordered the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to reassess the $14 billion acquisition, citing national security concerns.
Just two days later, Trump publicly opposed the merger, stating that his proposed tariffs on foreign steel would eliminate the need for the deal altogether.
The merger, first announced in 2023, has faced resistance from the United Steelworkers union and bipartisan political leaders. With the deal still under federal review and facing domestic opposition, the final outcome remains uncertain.
